I had a wonderful professor in college who I've been thinking a lot about lately. She had an amazing energy and spirit about her, and I learned a lot of great things thanks to her. One thing I learned, i learned on a trip to Istanbul with her. We were shopping in a bazar and she picked something up, I don't remember what it was, and held it in her hand. She said, "I only get things when I'm travelling if it fits in my hand." I've since realized what a big memory something so little can evoke. I've found little things on vacations or from places I've loved and kept them in a box. But why keep them tucked away? I found the perfect way to display my little things, and it only cost me 6.99!
First I found a deep-ish frame at goodwill. I then took out the stock photos of the 90s family from it and removed the glass.
The frame was super ugly, but it had that shabby chic molding that I love. The molding was gold, even better, so I got it and painted right over the brown with white. It would be really cute if you painted a pastel first and then white, then sanded it. Super shabby.
Also featured players are the glue gun, fishing line, scissors and your little things.

Make sure you have a helper, too.
The hot glue is fine for beach rocks, shells, but I had some super special things that I didn't want to get gluey. So I glued the fishing line and then tied it around the thing carefully and dapped a tiny bit of glue on the knot.
The finished product is oh so pretty and oh so sensible. You can easily pop your little things out to rearrange them. The blank windows are cute and waiting to be filled in with new little things.
It's a lovely blend of family memories, trips and vacations, and places I've called home. I'd love to see your memory board!
